Roseola

We have another disease besides an ear infection!!! ROSEOLA!
Peyton was diagnosed Thursday afternoon with Roseola. For those of you who don't know what it is the books / websites describe it as follows: A high fever followed by a splotchy rash. And pretty much that is what it is. Peyton got a high fever Wednesday night. I thought for sure it was another ear infection, but the new pediatrician said his ears were clear. She checked for strep and the flu...both of which came back negative. She suggested that it could be roseola, but wouldn't know until the fever went down and a rash formed.

His fever was roughly 102 degrees for three days. Then on Saturday night, the fever broke. He woke up Sunday with a red, splotchy scalp. The tell-tale sign that it was roseola. The rash started to move down is back and sides. It doesn't seem to bother him, except his scalp itches. He is rubbing it on everything and even used the wooden mallet to scratch. Poor Boy!

Supposedly, almost all children from 6 months - 2 years get this virus. My guess is that Peyton infected most of his class with it before we knew what it was. Oops! I imagine in a few days he will be spot free and back to normal.
These pictures are hard to see, but you can sort of see the splotches on his back and side of his head. Doesn't seem to be affecting his sleep though. That is good!
