18 month check-up

Peyton went for his 18 month check-up yesterday. Overall he is doing very well. He is 27 lb 9 oz (73%) and 33 3/4 inches tall (82%). He's a pretty big boy, but has always been following this curve, so nothing to worry about. He got a lead check...not eating any lead that they can see, so I think all is well.

The doctor did an autism screening and questionnaire for him...nothing showing autism, so all is well. Some of the questions on the questionnaire were whether or not Peyton knew his name and if I thought he might be deaf. I was going to ask the doctor if that was a general question or a person specific question....when I am telling Peyton not to do something he neither knows his name nor hears my voice. :)

Unfortunately, he does have to go to an ear, nose, and throat doctor to check out his ears. They have been full of fluid for the past three months and they think that with his history of ear infections and such, he needs to be seen. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he ended up with tubes in his ears...I would actually welcome them. Less ear infections to deal with.

Overall, the doctor thought that everything looked like it was right on schedule and he was doing fine.

Peyton's words are coming quickly. He can now give animal sounds for the lion and tiger, cow, sheep, snake, dog, cat, duck, and monkey; he even knows them by looking at a picture. We're still working on the pig and horse...those are hard. He can point to his eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, toes, feet, belly, hair, and everyone's glasses. He says truck, bus, mama, dada, grandpa, grandma, ball, bat, pumpkin (kind of), big red (cardinal's mascot), all done, balloon, Peyton, glasses, and other words that I have no idea what they mean. He signs for more, please, thank you, all done, and milk. We don't use a lot of his signs anymore because he can point or bring us to what he wants. The words really just started coming within the last month...he has been able to say a few words for a while, but every day he will say something new.

We have to really be careful of what we do now because he will copy everything you do...even if it isn't supposed to be done. He loves to make people laugh and will repeat things to get people to laugh at him. He is such a ham!!

It will be very interesting to see what comes up over the next few months. He'll just get into more things and become a bigger funnier boy. I'll keep you all posted.

Wow, I'm so jealous of the words Peyton says!! Kaiya is so far behind (I think). Now she says doggy so good but doesn't seem to say what she said before - ugh, so frustrating! And pointing to his body parts - awesome! Kaiya isn't getting that either :( Peyton, you are one smart kid!!
